With spring in full swing and the markets full of fresh, seasonal produce we have been going back to some of our favorite cookbooks to get inspiration and thought we would share a few with you. We love to cook around here and cherish spending the time together to prepare delicious food that inspires and incorporates great friends and conversations around the table.
THE PRO – Alice Waters has a new cookbook out called In the Green Kitchen, Techniques to Learn by Heart. Naturally she is very passionate about local, seasonal produce which her recipes highlight. The new book is all about mastering the basics; a perfectly poached egg on fresh, diced tomatoes and toasted bread, homemade guacamole, simple pesto, garlic vinaigrette, and so much more. Like her title states, these are all recipes and cooking methods to know by heart. Word on the street is, CARROTS may be hosting a book signing for her new book this summer!
THE LOCAL – Heidi Swanson’s Super Natural Cooking is a thoughtful, healthy cooking guide I refer to regularly. Her recipes are simple, satisfying and yet fun to explore. Her blog, 101cookbooks.com, is a favorite. I just made the Carrot Almond Salad with jalapeno dressing which was light and refreshing. Of course, you know we love anything with carrots!
THE FLEXITARIAN – It wasn’t until recently that I even knew what this word meant. Peter Berley’s The Flexitarian Table is a recent purchase that I can’t put down. The recipes are all very “flexible” and perfect for groups, families or couples who may eat a bit differently, but enjoy sitting down for meals together. The cookbook is organized by seasons and makes use of all the best each season has to offer. Try the Cumin & Lime roasted carrots, honestly they are to-die-for.
