Melissa and Catie interviewed on Bazaar.com
Planning a trip this summer? We turned to our Rolodex of fashion insiders to give you tips on their cities’ high points. Stay tuned for a new destination each week.
The experts: Melissa and Catie Grimm of Carrots.
What is your favorite part about living in SF? The food and the weather! There are so many great restaurants in the city where you can get fresh, local ingredients. The farmers markets are amazing and make cooking at home a delight. Many people complain about the weather but we love it. You never go too long without a crisp, sunny day and we get to take full advantage of our scarf collections.
In your opinion, who are your city’s most stylish inhabitants? Our customers! We have a wide variety of customers with interesting styles, but are constantly inspired by their overall casual coolness.

“One look at the Grimm sisters’ blog Carrot Talk, and it’s obvious that their love of food and fashion go hand in hand. As scions of the Central Valley Grimmway baby carrots empire and co-owners of Jackson Square’s aptly named Carrots boutique, Melissa and Catie Grimm pepper posts about their latest designer discoveries with ebullient food musings – from restaurant raves to gourmet recipes they’ve tried at home… But in between indulging their interests in cooking, entertaining, dining out and traveling (the Grimm clan vacationed in South Africa in December, Catie visited Marrakesh, Morocco, last summer with her husband, and Melissa’s wedding will take place at Lake Como, Italy, this month), this sibling duo is busy keeping their family’s entrepreneurial spirit alive with Carrots.”
San Francisco Magazine was also kind enough to highlight one of our latest projects- a collaborative effort with Canadian designer Dean Hutchinson, in addition to stocking his signature label, a’bout. Both available in store NOW!
Fashion frenzy over an almost-local line By Elizabeth Varnell
“What’s flying off the racks here right now is not one of the usual New York labels—it’s homegrown (again, almost) designer Dean Hutchinson’s new a’bout clothing line at the Grimm sisters’ Carrots boutique in Jackson Square. Hutchinson moved to Toronto in 2008, where his pieces are produced, but for 15 years before that, he designed here—first out of a Sacramento Street showroom catering to ladies who lunch, work, or do both, and later at a design lab on Sutter Street, where gallerists ordered his asymmetrical suits…
…Now, design-conscious women of all ages are snapping up his drapey minimalist shirts, tanks, skirts, and jackets faster than the Grimms can reorder them. For fall, they’re collaborating with Hutchinson and his design partner, Yunchieh Chang, to create a sexy pencil dress and sleek skirt, and they’ll be devoting a shop within their shop to his line.”
