The fashionable set has been hounding down Avant Toi knitwear for years. Even now Avant Toi is hard-to-find and only a few of the most unique shops around the world carry it. Now Carrot choppers can find this elusive Italian knitwear line right here!
Mirko Ghignone, creative director, founded this family owned business in 1994. With Mirko’s eclectic tastes and artistic sensibilities luxury cashmere has been revolutionized. This collection strives to liberate knitwear from staid classic traditions. Knitted wardrobe staples such as pullovers, cardigans, t-shirts, scarves and shawls are subject to unthinkable treatments and the result is sophisticated and edgy. They are painted, washed, singed, and torn – although comfort remains at the heart of these pieces. Avant Toi is a true original in the knitwear world and due to the handmade nature, no two pieces are exactly the same.
Especially coveted are there one-of-a-kind silk and cashmere shawls. These are pieces that meld vividly colored Avant Toi cashmere with vintage dead stock Hèrmes silk scarfs that were never used before. They are amazingly beautiful and not to be missed.

This week we received a special delivery from artist and leather artisan T Smith Knowles. Inside the package were 5 of Knowles’ latest creations. Each handbag is a one-of-a-kind piece numbered and signed by T Smith Knowles herself. SEE the pictures BELOW.
Born and raised in California, Knowles is a sculptor and fine artist. Her paintings, photographs, sculptures, and handbags have a timeless and heirloom quality that often make reference to the natural beauty of the western landscape.
As a result of experimenting with new mediums Knowles became fascinated with the versatility and beauty of leather. The handbags are the product of all her favorite mediums – painting, photography, sculpture – and finished with the same creative force for the purpose of being worn.
The bags are light without typical hardware. The details are culled from authentic vintage indigenous weaves, semi-precious stones or antique beads. Only T. Smith Knowles had been involved in the cutting, stitching, lacing and adorning of these bags. They cannot be duplicated and that is a great part of what makes them so very special. Each one is a work of art.
Please drop by to visit and see these pieces for yourself.

1. Jeanine Payer
A local San Franciscan and pioneer of poetry and prose engraved jewelry, Jeanine Payer brings her collection to CARROTS. Jeanine Payer’s designs are whimsical, romantic, delicate, and thoughtful. Each piece is engraved in the most minute script (we can’t believe they can do this free hand) and each quote makes each piece all the more personal.
2. Martin Margiela small leather goods
Impeccable finishing, fine leather, and convenient sizes. The bordeaux color just in for Fall is really rich and pretty.
3. Faliero Sarti
A scarf for every season.
This L.A. collection is a new one for us. We love their soft and cozy t-shirts and tunics. I almost wore mine to bed I felt so comfy!
5. Eli Halili
Some of you well traveled types might know Eli Halili for his gorgeous jewelry shop in New York. Eli is now doing handbags and they speak to the designer’s impeccable taste. Structurally they are exquisite in their shape and design. The calf leather, ostrich leather, and sterling silver hardware is superb.
6. Parker Blue
New basics just in!
7. Ilia cosmetics
We love this all organic, ‘no-bad-stuff’ cosmetics line. The new lip crayons just arrived.
8. Goldsign virtual in focus
It’s nice to have a higher rise for a change.
9. Avant Toi
Coming soon! The best kept secret in cashmere – Avant Toi will be at Carrots this Fall.
10. Hitchcock Madrona
A recent discovery from Seattle: Hitchcock Madrona … what a good name. This ultra-cool design duo is, in fact, Erica Nelson-Sheehan and Dustin Nelson. They also own a great shop in Seattle, but you can get a piece of the action here in SF with their leather and metal cuffs.

There is beauty in simplicity. Linda Rodin was raised on this principle, which is very apparent in her uber chic, sophisticated style… tortoise shell eyeglasses, ballet flats, and natural silver hair pulled back in a ponytail, “I am the lowest-maintenance person I know. I don’t labor over how I look.”
It’s this natural, devil-may-care brand of beauty that won her modeling jobs when she moved to Italy to study at age eighteen… with her Twiggy eyelashes, over-the-knee boots, maxi coat, and five-inch skirt “that was more like a handkerchief”.
A model, fashionista, stylist all paved the path for Rodin to create her own skin care line. “What I longed for was something far simpler—products for the here-and-now, that caress the skin noticeably and without any delay. Nothing out there did quite that.”
Rodin put the finishing touches on her first dream elixir, the original RODIN olio lusso face oil, in 2007…and soon RODIN olio lusso was selling to a cult following… the RODIN olio lusso collection is growing—each new item containing a similar, near-magical blend of essential oils, starting with a body oil, then a hair oil, and most recently a lip balm.
Arriving any day at CARROTS… come check it out, you will quickly understand the “cult” following I mentioned.
